August 2008
We finally got the majority of 2009 class schedule posted. More classes for later in the year will be posted within the next 6 months. We are getting ready for the Red Hawk Native American pow wow which is fast approaching in August, this may make next months news letter late. As the seasons change from summer to fall we will be out hunting and gathering to provide food and medicines for the winter. This year we have decided to go completely off the grid so to speak with our food supplies. With all the food related illnesses and the cost going through the roof we feel that this will allow us to live more healthy and keep our budgets in check. I feel that we could all benefit from taking some of our food from the wilderness but remember to do so as a caretaker/gardener, instead of just going out and wiping out all the plants you want. Try to leave the land better than you found it. One final note on winter preps make sure you are in shape and have everything you may need to deal with unexpected emergencies including your skills. We take things like electricity, food from stores and many other modern conveniences for granted. With everything going on with the world anything can happen that would limit our supplies or cause us to live a primitive life sooner than we may expect. This is why I push the skills so hard so we will be prepared for anything from a power outage to a major natural or manmade disaster.
